This Englishman now has his castle

21 08 2008

Well it finally happened. We almost own a house. Just need the signatures on the dotted line:)

Thanks to many people and major miracles we have the house we wanted. It went from out of reach, impossible, to done and done I’m about 12 hours!

Hopefully I’ll have all kinds of interesting blogs to write after this. But don’t hold your breath. I don’t want deaths on my shoulders!

Rambling on

19 08 2008

It just occured to me that I have had the ability to blog at any moment that something wise, amusing, or irrelevant strikes me for over a month. Just one of the many unexplored (by me) benefits that the iphone gives to humanity… So there you have it. Wonder what it is that makes simple things so hard: I should read more, could do it with my iPhone, I could be more organized, I have no end of helpful apps. at my disposal. I could even read the Bible more, it’s right there at my finger tips. I have the Word of God with me and I still don’t look and see what He has to say to me. I’ll let you know if I figure it out. I’ll email you from my iPhone and tell you when I’ll be in town for a book signing.

War Journal Entry One

17 05 2008

Thought I would share something thats been on my heart as of late. Wearing the Armor of God. Check this out:

EPH 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints

Thats right folks I cited a source! Just so happens that this is from the most important source I could find: The Bible. SO being as it was written by the creator of the… well Everything, I thought i might be more than just a nice story to read to children.

Thinking about it I was wandering how many of us go through our lives with out our spritual armor on? I know I don’t bother most days. In fact i don’ think I have thought much about it since a child in Sunday school. But we are in a battle, or war, hence the journal, so I think its important to look at it. I mentioned this to Bob and Dwayne (other leaders of our church group, The Legion of Men) and it fit perfectly with what they had been thinking for our Advance (retreat for men :) ). So I will now be bringing whatever I dig up on this all to the men in October. Along with Prayer (Bob will be talking about), and Faith that Dan will be talking about. Interestingly faith is the most important part of our Armor. Don’t you love it when Go brings things together so smoothly?! So keep me in your prayers while I put this all together eh?

Medical Break Through

17 05 2008

Something a little funnier than my last rant that solved not a lot ad was never completed due to me never typing up Cap’s quote. Too much typing. I recommend that you just read the Marvel Civil War series. The quote is past half way and i think there are about 60 books in there including the tie-ins. If you bother to read this drivel (as in this blog) then you’ll love it.

But anyway, I found this while looking for something on line. I think that this could be a major medical break though and  want to buy stock now. One thing I’m left pondering is what will we do with our facebook walls now?!

The problem with the world today…

10 05 2008

Okay well I’m here at the folks waiting to help my Dad with some doors, and my uncle called so he’s yacking away on the phone. I figure I can fill this moment of otherwise wasted time by sharing my jewel like thoughts with you all. Lucky you.

As the title of the post suggests I have figured out what is wrong with the world: People. Simply put we’re a pain in the planets arse. Anyway I’m going to do doors now and then I’ll finish where I was headed with all this later. Till then…

And now I’m back. It’s Sunday evening and I am trying in vain to prolong going to bed so that I feel like I get the most out of the weekend. Still I’m done hanging doors at my parents house and doing Mothers Day type things (it is Mothering Sunday here in the US) so I figured what better than to finish the nice post I was planning!

Well sadly, as is so often the case, stopping my blogging mid rant means that I have forgotten all of what I was ranting about. A huge loss no doubt. But I will get to the main point. I am losing faith in much of the human race. This happens from time to time. The trigger this time around was whilst reading a comic book i came across a statement from Capitan America. And it was one of the most solid and profound statements about our society I have seen recently. I was about to go join his resistance at that very moment. Alas we don’t have superheros. And I’m a big nerd. Oh well.

Still I was prompted to spend some more time in the blogging world and make sure that I remember to write down some of the things that wander through my head so that I can look back and check on myself and make sure I’m barking up the right tree.

Even more so since hearing Jeff’s sermon this morning about Freedom in Christ. Making the choice for ourselves. It struck me that I should be ‘journaling’ in some form what I believe God is saying in my life so that I can see if I’m sticking to the choices I make, or if I keep cycling back and forth. Falling into the same traps again and again. Plus I need to make sure I am listening to what God has to say and that I am paying attention. I’m going to think of it as my own ‘War Journal’ as I go through my life. It makes me think I’m achieving something Punisher like :) Hopefully it will help remind me that I am in a battle everyday and that all people are Gods children. Some of them are just bigger pains in the arse than others. Long and random I am afraid, but it is for me personally not you! I highly doubt anyone reads this anyway, but if you do I hope it helps you in someway, and I of course welcome any comments you might have.

And with that: Good night.

http://cosmiclog.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/02/26/703426.aspx?GT1=32001

Okay you have to check this link out and let me know what you think. To be honest I can’t believe that it is an issue. The whole article has the judge from the BBC version of  “Robot Wars” as a ‘credible’ source on the ethics of real-world robot battlefields. Thats like having the guy that plays a doctor on TV give you emergency medical advice isn’t it?!

Why do people go to straight to sci-fi to argue a point on new technology?! In case you were unaware, the ‘fi’ is for fiction. What difference does it make whether the robot soldier has a gun or not. Basically these are small remote control tanks and planes. They can diffuse situations with out putting our people in harms way. They also have the option of withholding lethal force because they don’t have a life to lose in the event that something goes wrong.

As for the worry they will go haywire and kill everyone, people do that! Should e just take all technology out of war and go back to throwing rocks at each other?! The unfortunate truth about warfare is that you need to stay one step ahead. Believe me, an enemy is not going to worry about the means he or she is killing your fellow country men.

Well there is my quick reaction to it. Whats your take?

People really need something to whine about…

5 02 2008

Got to love this. Apparently there are people out there that are surprised by the fact that a simple devise such as the Nintendo DS  can’t understand the words the say. I see several issues here: 1. The DS is a toy, can you really expect it to do more than most computers costing much, much more?! 2. People have forgotten how to pronounce words properly something, I, as a Brit. living in the US understand far too well…

The simple solution, I feel, is to have the software modified to actually teach people how to speak again. It should also have the ability to send an electric shock through the user when they get it wrong. It’s not hard! Of course I may have this opinion due to the fact that I’m from South East England and therefore speak better than everyone else!

The SuperBowl

4 02 2008

Thats what I had my cereal in this morning anyway. Very nice green job. Ceramic. Nice and deep for lots of milk. Then this afternoon I set up my new tent (my Kelty Quattro 2. Sweet tent by the way). Slow day I guess nothing really going on. Tent kicks arse though. Still REALLY want to go camping. So to kill some time I fired up the Tv only to find there is some wussy version of Rugby being played by steroid addled ‘athletes’. Turned it off. Finished re-reading So Long and Thanks For all The Fish. Genius. Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed your Sunday. Anyone have the cure for wander lust?

A real game

Here is the first entry in the blog! So far all I can tell you for sure is that I have opinions on nearly everything. And they’re all right. As in correct. Just ask my wife…

I like to think that I’m a straight shooting, no nonsense common sense kind of guy . You may think otherwise, but I highly doubt your reading this anyway. And if you are great. Disagree with me all you want. We all know that, living in a Democracy (or Republic…), means what I believe has nothing to do with anything the government actually does anyway. And you’re in no danger of me running the country so relax and smile. If you disagree tell me why: It’ll give me something to smile about!

This married, working, bill paying, father of almost 2 (2nd due April 16th) is off to Church. Thats right Church. So until I get another 5 mins you’re on you’re own. Try not to screw things up :)
